The Support at Home Senate Inquiry was a recommendation of last year’s Aged Care Service Delivery Senate Inquiry. Greens Senator Penny Allman-Payne chairs the Inquiry and is tasked with looking into how well older Australians can access home care.
Recipients of the Support at Home SAH program have expressed concerns about the automated assessment tool, wait times for their packages, a lack of support workers, and co-contribution costs. Many older Australians are doing without fundamental care because of the co-contribution.
Providers have raised concerns fuelling the enquiry, highlighting that the program is causing operators to slip into deficit due to squeezed margins and higher costs.
