The Sisterhood of Older Women is an online gathering of older women (aged 65+) interested in supporting each other, combating gendered ageism and promoting equality for older women.

 

The aims of The Sisterhood of Older Women are to promote respect and equality for older women by providing an online gathering of older women to explore experiences of ageism and respect, and to identify opportunities to promote respect and equality for older women. The program for the gathering includes:

 

· Welcome: Dr Catherine Barrett will outline the gathering and clarify guidelines for working together

· Evidence: Rochelle Beatty will provide a brief summary of evidence on inequalities for older women

· Sharing: participants will be invited to share stories of ageism and strategies for responding and protecting themselves

· Respect: participants will be invited to share their views on what respect means to older women

· Change: Biscuit Tin project participants will share their strategies for promoting equality in their local community (presenters tbc)

· Strength: Dr Catherine Barrett will invite participants to identify a strong word that reflects their power.

 

The Sisterhood is part of the BluePrint on Respect for Older Women being developed by Celebrate Ageing Ltd, Elder Rights Australia and supported by the Victorian Women’s Trust. This document outlines the sisterhood for older women interested in participating.
